Beau Brown

Carl B. (Beau) Brown, CPCU
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Beau is Chairman of California Casualty Group's Advisory Board, and he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of California Casualty Management Company. He is the fourth generation of the Brown family to lead California Casualty. Beau's been with the company for 26 years and has held a variety of senior executive positions. He has an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and a M.B.A. from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Beau serves on the board of Impact Teen Drivers, an organization dedicated to educating teens about the dangers of reckless and distracted driving.
Tom Brown

Thomas R. Brown, CLU
Honorary Chairman

Thomas is Honorary Chairman of California Casualty Group's Advisory Board, having served as its Chairman from 1978 until 2009. He became Chairman Emeritus of the Board of California Casualty Management Company in January 2013 and continues to serve as a Director on that Board. From 1978 to January 1, 2004, he also served as California Casualty Management Company's CEO. He is the third generation of his family to lead California Casualty. Tom has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He started with the company in 1961 after serving 2 years as a officer in the US Navy. In 1962 he returned to Stanford earning an MBA from the Graduate School of Business in 1964. He then headed back to California Casualty Management Company.

Joe Volponi

President

Joe is the President of California Casualty Management Company and a member of the Board of Directors. He is also a member of California Casualty Group's Advisory Board. Joe joined California Casualty in 1979 and currently oversees all aspects of the Actuarial, Claims, Legal, Underwriting, Product Development and Group Relations functions. Joe is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. He is a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Mike Bower

Michael D. Bower
Executive Vice President —Technology & Investments

Mike joined California Casualty Management Company in 1990 and has held a variety of positions related to Finance, Investments and Information Technology. His current responsibilities include leading the Investment, Strategic Planning and Information Technology functions. Mike holds a B.S. in Finance from Golden Gate University.

Mike Ray

Michael A. Ray, CPA
Executive Vice President — Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer

Mike joined California Casualty in 2001 as Controller, a position he held through 2006. Mike was employed for seven years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, gaining experience in traditional external audits, co-sourced internal audit, and enterprise risk management engagements. In addition to the typical CFO functions, Mike is also responsible for corporate services, human resources, and internal audit. Mike holds a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned the designation of Certified Public Accountant from the State of California. Mike is an officer on the Board of CalCPA's San Francisco Chapter and is the Chairperson of the Pacifica School District's Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.

Hong Chen

Hong Chen, FCAS, MAAA
Senior Vice President - Actuary

Hong joined California Casualty Management Company in 1995. Her current responsibilities include Ratemaking, Competitive Analyses, and Statistical Reporting. Hong holds a M.S. degree in Statistics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She is a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Jim Englese

James Inglese, CPCU
Senior Vice President — General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Jim joined California Casualty in 1995 and became General Counsel in 2012. He received his law degree from San Francisco Law School in 1988. Jim provides legal and regulatory guidance to the company's business units and is a member of the company's Operating Committee.

Judy Jao

Judy Jao, FCAS, MAAA
Senior Vice President – Actuary

Judy joined California Casualty in 2001 and is responsible for the Reserving and Financial Forecasting functions. She is also the Appointed Actuary. Judy is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Jim Kauffman

James R. Kauffman
Senior Vice President — Claims

Jim is an attorney who manages the Claims Department for California Casualty Management Company. He has 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. He joined California Casualty in 1983 and has spent time in the Underwriting Department and the General Counsel's Office. He has both trial court and appellate experience. Jim is a graduate of the University of Arizona and Golden Gate University School of Law. He has also completed coursework at the University of California Hastings College of Trial Advocacy and Harvard University Center for Mediation Studies. He is licensed to practice law in both California and Illinois.

Mike McCormick

Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer – Sales and Marketing

Since joining California Casualty in 1998, Mike has held a number of roles in both the Sales and Marketing departments. He is now Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing all marketing functions and sales. Mike holds a bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University. He also completed the Executive Leadership Program from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Chuck Muenzen

Joseph C. (Chuck) Muenzen, CPCU
Senior Vice President – Underwriting, Product Development & Customer and Agency Services

Chuck began his insurance career with California Casualty in 1982. He has held a variety of leadership positions in Marketing, Underwriting and Product Development, and is currently responsible for overseeing the company’s Underwriting, Product Development, Customer Service and Agency Services functions. Chuck holds a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. in Finance/Risk Management from Walden University.
